Can the farmer get everything across the river?

Here’s a classic river crossing puzzle: there is a farmer, a bale of hay, a sheep, and a dinosaur on one side of a river. The only way across the river is a boat that must be piloted by the farmer and only has room for one other thing. Unfortunately if the farmer leaves the dinosaur and sheep together, then the dinosaur will eat the sheep. If she leaves the sheep with the hay, then the sheep will eat the hay. How can the farmer get all three things across the river without anything getting eaten? Even better than trying this puzzle in your head is to get out 4 items – you can substitute as long as it’s clear who eats who!
Mark demonstrates the solution.
